As organisations resurface from the Covid recession, the Office of Finance are yet again under pressure to shape the recovery path and deal with a complex set of challenges. Asset impairments and reduced risk-bearing capacity across regulated industries requires re-building of capital. Low interest rates are raising asset prices, compressing profit margins and increasing focus to reduce costs immediately. Board members and investors are demanding sustained double-digit return-on-equity, stable credit ratings and increased transparency on risks to maximise shareholder value. At the same time, regulators are requesting more real-time scrutiny on organisations’ operations and disclosures, with a wave of new measures planned in 2022 including increased focus on ESG.

To compound the challenges further, business lines are demanding improved actionable analytics and immediate insights, while customers are requesting a more personalised and self-serve experience enabled through digital platforms and assets. As the ‘great resignation’ continues, the challenge of finding and retaining skilled professionals and adopting new ways of working has become a reality across the market.
